2012 marks the inaugural season for the recently formed OSCAAR Outlaw Modified touring series. The series’ first season will consist of 11 events at six different facilities. Of the 11 races, seven will be in conjunction with OSCAAR Super Late Model events. The Modified’s will run the same format as the Super Late Models that includes heat races followed by a feature event that will typically run 30 laps.
The first ever OSCAAR Outlaw Modified event will take place at Sunset Speedway on the Victoria Day long weekend alongside the Super Late Models on Sunday, May 20. This also marks the first time modified racing will take place at Sunset Speedway.
Two weeks later, the Modified’s will make their return to Kawartha Speedway for a 25-lap feature event on June 1st at the Fraserville, Ontario oval.
The modified and super late model tours remain together for a Saturday night race at Barrie Speedway on June 16 that will include a 30-lap feature event.
The tours then separate for the Canada Day weekend as the Modified’s will compete at Peterborough Speedway on Canada Day as part of the Chase for the Colours Event. As an added bonus for this event the drivers that finish first and second in the feature event will lock themselves into the front row for the Autumn Colours Classic in October.
The fifth stop in the tour takes the series to the first facility known for its modified racing: Varney Motor Speedway in Durham, Ontario. The 30-lap feature will be the first of two events at Varney in 2012 for the OSCAAR Outlaw Modified’s.
A Friday night race at Delaware Speedway on August 4 marks the beginning of a busy month for the modified series. Open wheel enthusiasts will want to mark this date on their calendar as the OSCAAR Mods will be part of the ISMA Super Modified weekend at Delaware Speedway
A week later, the Modified’s will return to Varney Speedway for their only 50 lap feature event of the 2012 season. The annual Rick Woolner Memorial continues to grow each year and is the crown jewel event for the OSCAAR Mods.
The following week OSCAAR Modified Racing will once again be at the track on Sunday, August 19, this time at Peterborough Speedway for a 30-lap feature.
August 24 marks the final Friday night show for the OSCAAR Modified’s and the final trip to Delaware Speedway. The race, however, will mark the first of three consecutive events where the Modified’s will run alongside the Super Late Models.
After a well-deserved month off, OSCAAR Modified racing returns to action at the 2012 edition of Sunset Speedway’s Velocity 250. Qualifying heats will take place on Saturday, September 22, and the 30-lap feature on Sunday, September 23.
The final event of the year will see the first ever OSCAAR Modified Champion crowned as part of Peterborough Speedway’s 20th annual Autumn Colours Classic. There will be a 30-lap feature for the OSCAAR Modified’s that will be a part of the biggest one day of racing, including a 50-lap feature for the OSCAAR Super Late Models.
The schedule for the 2012 OSCAAR Outlaw Modified Series is a busy one, but one that will surely provide an entire season’s worth of racing excitement. Fans of the modified’s will want to make sure to stop by the OSCAAR booth at the upcoming Motorsports Expo.
