Rick Phillips Scores First Career OSCAAR Victory at Brighton

Rick Phillips

BRIGHTON, Ontario — Rick Phillips put his dirt experience to good use, driving the Greg Belyea-owned No. 25 Cougar to his first ever Knightworks Design, Scott Reinhart Trailer Sales Ltd feature victory, presented by Excess Storage.

In the McDonald’s Brighton sponsored-heats, Rodney Rutherford won the first race ahead of Rick Phillips, Tyler Hawn, Logan Schwedyk, and Art Rodgers.

Steve Book won the second heat ahead of Brandon Crumbie, Bob Parsons, Nick Clarke, and Stephen Mayhew.

From the drop of the green flag, the action in the feature was tight with the top-four within inches of each other throughout the event. Phillips and Book battled for the lead in the early stages, with Hawn and Crumbie close behind. Just past the halfway mark, Hawn made his way up into second, challenging Phillips for the lead over the next series of laps.

With five laps to go, though, it was Rick Phillips as he began to gap the field a little, cruising to his first career OSCAAR victory. Logan Schwedyk made the late-race charge to the front, making the pass for second across the finish line in the final two laps. Brandon Crumbie finished third, followed by Tyler Hawn and Steve Book.

Bob Parsons finished sixth, followed by Rodney Rutherford, Nick Clarke, Art Rodgers, and Stephen Mayhew.

Special thanks to Just Like Home Dog Care Centre for also sponsoring the event. Also, thanks to Dan Balych and Knightworks Design for hosting a pre-race BBQ for the drivers and crew members.
