5 (More) Thoughts About – Knightworks Design OSCAAR Hot Rods

OSCAAR Hot Rod series at Jukasa Motor Speedway 2020

Even though it was a shortened schedule for the Knightworks Design OSCAAR Hot Rods presented by Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park, there was a lot to offer through the four events that were ran, as they offer a variety of thoughts for the years ahead.

Impressive Debuts Part 2

The future of the series seems to be in good hands with the growing diversity and competitors, and that was emphasized by a couple impressive debuts this past season.

With Jesse Kennedy missing out on the first event of the season at Jukasa Motor Speedway, he’d elect to put Jay Doerr behind the wheel to showcase his late model experience. The decision paid off in the form of a fifth-place finish.

Scott Beatty proved himself behind the wheel of a Late Model, and got the chance to return back behind the wheel after having a brief hiatus from competition. He drove the Javelin to a fourth-place finish in his series debut at Jukasa, followed by a heat win and a fifth at Sunset Speedway. Unfortunately, the return to the Crown Jewel saw his day end early with mechanical issues.

Hard Hit

When Ed Bowlby debuted his beautiful Camaro, immediately a lot of people fell in love simply by the clean lines and color. He even proved it was fast, as evident with a heat win at Peterborough Speedway’s 2019 Autumn Colours Classic and a fifth at Sunset Speedway.

Unfortunately, the 2020 campaign did not go as hoped with Bowlby sustaining a significant damage in a front stretch crash in a heat event at Sauble Speedway. Hopefully the incident doesn’t end his aspirations with the series as last year proved he could easily be someone to watch battle for wins.

X Marks the Spot

When looking at teams that have been involved with the series from the beginning, Foster Motorsports easily fits the equation and it makes sense as their history with OSCAAR stems back into the Super Late Model days.

Adrian Foster proved the team can still get the job done on any given week, as evident by no finish worse than ninth across the four events this year with a pair of top-five’s. He also had a good chance to win at Sauble Speedway, leading some laps and battling throughout for the top spot with eventual winner Rob Bromley.

A past winner in the series, it’d be no surprise to see the feat repeated once again in 2021.

Still Fast

Since bursting onto the scene, Billy Alderson Jr. has proven to be someone to watch in Hot Rod competition. Despite running a handful of events each season, he has scored a pair of victories, including the 2019 Fall Velocity at Sunset Speedway.

Another year in the books, and the tune remains the same with Billy’s Speed Shop proving they can run with the best despite the ever-changing landscape. Alderson made only one start this year, but still pulled off a top-five with fourth at Sunset Speedway. Of note, it extends his streak as he has managed to score 10 consecutive top-five’s in a row dating back through the past two years.

All in the Family

It’s sometimes said that people have a family at hand, along with a family that has come together at the race track. Though for some teams, it’s all about going racing as family together – and that is part of the OSCAAR Hot Rod Series roots with the Parsons and Clarkes laying the groundwork.

In years past, they have experienced success together with Nick Clarke scoring a couple victories, while Bob Parsons shined with a top-five points finish last season. There was also a nice heat victory by Bill Clarke at Peterborough Speedway to close out 2019.

Unfortunately, the 2020 campaign did not see the familiar glorious results continue with just one top-10 – Nick Clarke at Sunset Speedway placing ninth. Though with all their history and experience tied together as one, don’t expect them to stay down for long as a return to checkered flags should come in 2021.
