BEHIND THE WHEEL: 5 Modified Drivers Thoughts Going into Flamboro Speedway

MILLGROVE, Ontario — After excitement across the province this year, the Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modifieds presented by Just Foam It are ready for their first appearance at Flamboro Speedway of the season on Saturday, August 27.

Andy Kamrath enters the event with a 35-point advantage ahead of the competition as he looks for his first series championship. But that’s not on his mind as he says, “We’re not even looking at the points right now. We just let them fall where they need.”

Kamrath is currently in the middle of a hot streak, riding a wave of back-to-back wins into the weekend, with five total on the season. He has been fast at Flamboro Speedway in each previous appearance, scoring three straight podiums including two victories.

“(My) thoughts going in to Flamboro is we just gotta keep on our program and look back on our notes,” he commented. “It’s similar to Sauble so we should be good.”

The man chasing him in points is TJ Edwards, who hopes his new ride will be what he needs to score his second victory of 2022. Being the current runner-up in the standings and knowing the deficit, he says it does not change his mindset moving forward.

“Anything could happen with five races left,” he added. “All we can do is keep having good finishes and see where we are at the end of the year.”

Edwards has been fast all season to date, as evident by his six consecutive top-five finishes, including a victory at Delaware Speedway. He was strong in his rookie campaign at Flamboro, as evident by a runner-up performance.

“I’m excited to be heading to Flamboro speedway,” he commented. “I have only every race there once and we had a good outing there so I’m excited to see what we have for this weekend.”

While the focus is on the top of the points standings, there are other drivers who are hopeful of being apart of the conversations.

Jake Watson has become a dark horse on the tour, as evident by no finishes worse than ninth through six appearances in 2022 including a season-best fourth. He knows his way around Flamboro, as evident by previous trips to victory lane in the Mini Stock.

“Definitely looking forward to Flamboro,” he commented. “It’s my favourite track that the series goes to. We’ve only raced there once with the series so far but I’ve had a lot of success there in the past.”

Herb Walters’ consistency is something he hopes to continue, following three straight top-10 performances on the tour.

“Our big thing going into Flamboro is getting a good finish,” he shared. “We have been chasing engine issues since our second visit to Sunset. I haven’t raced there since the super stock race of Champions show in 2009 I think it was, so getting used to the track again maybe a challenge, but we still have high hopes on a strong finish.”

Wally Wilson hopes to score his third top-10 finish of the season, following a season-best ninth at Peterborough Speedway. Notably, his best finish to date at Flamboro Speedway is 12th on two occasions.

“My thoughts going into Flamboro Speedway this weekend, I’d have to say after the last few races we’ve shown some speed, unfortunately we blew that motor up,” he shared. “But we’ve got the other car to take out until we get that fixed, so we’re hoping to just have a good clean race and get another solid top 10 run!”
