Qwick Wick Fire Starter OSCAAR Hot Rods Fall Velocity at Sunset Speedway Preview

INNISFIL, Ontario — After a couple weeks their breath following a series of thrilling events, the Qwick Wick Fire Starter OSCAAR Hot Rods return to Sunset Speedway on September 17 and 18 for Fall Velocity.

It will mark the 18th time the Hot Rods have raced at Sunset Speedway, following their inaugural appearance at Velocity 250 in September 2017. This far, we’ve seen Dan Archibald and Tyler Hawn score four wins a piece, a pair of for Tom Walters, and single victories for Billy Alderson Jr., Jesse Kennedy, Kyle Fetterly, Paul Senior, John Gaunt, and Cole Weber.

Following each of the events, regardless of the winter, the fans have left the speedway talking about the racing, as the stars of the series have battle side-by-side for multiple laps for positions throughout the field.

Jeremy McLean hopes to the speed shown with a top-10 in six of his last seven Sunset Speedway appearances, including a fifth last September, carries into the weekend.

Steve Book heads into this weekend with a smile on his face following just four finishes worse than sixth in his last 23 series starts, including a victory at Brighton Speedway. In 14 Sunset Speedway races, he has a single finish outside of the top-10, and a track-best second on two occasions.

Paul Senior hopes to have a good outing as he ran strong last season, scoring the victory at Fall Velocity. He has scored a top-10 finish in his last seven series starts, including a runner-up at Delaware Speedway. He placed fourth and eighth his latest appearances at Sunset.

Gary Hannah hopes to turn things around after failing to start the last two series events due to mechanical gremlins. He picked up a track-best 14th at Sunset Speedway in June, to go with a ninth at Peterborough Speedway.

Steve Adams is looking for redemption behind the wheel of the Oldsmobile after seeing his trip to Flamboro end early with a crash on the frontstretch. He was fast at Sunset Speedway in June with a ninth-place finish.

Ryan Cowan looks to keep the improvement rolling, after scoring a track-best 10th-place finish at Sunset Speedway in July. He has scored a top-10 in four of his last five series appearances.

Nick Clarke hopes to keep the pretty in the blue mustang, along with the current momentum following a pair of back-to-back podium appearances. He picked up runner-up at Sunset Speedway in June, giving him a top-10 in each of his last four starts.

Connor Ellis hopes to sore his third-career top-10 finish following a solid 12th-place finish at Flamboro Speedway. He scored a track-best 11th at Sunset Speedway in July.

Donny Beatty is another driver looking to keep the momentum rolling, following back-to-back top-10 finishes in his latest series appearances. He knows how to get the job done at Sunset, though, scoring a pair of top-five’s in three races this season.

Tom Walters rolls into Sunset Speedway with momentum on his side following four straight podium finishes, one of those at Sunset with a runner-up. He also was your 2022 Spring Velocity winner.

Rob Bromley heads to Sunset Speedway with momentum on his side, following eight top-10’s in nine series races this season. Notably, he has scored a top-10 in each of his last five Sunset appearances, including a third in June.

Bill Zardo will hope to keep the momentum rolling, following a sixth-place finish at Flamboro Speedway. In his three appearances at Sunset Speedway, he has appeared on the podium twice with a best finish of second in May.

Ronald Parsons hopes to improve upon his debut with the series from June, where he placed 16th.

Cole Weber heads to Sunset Speedway with momentum on his side after scoring three victories in his last five series appearances. Notably, he picked up the victory at Sunset in July.

Sean Walker will hope to improve upon his previous Sunset Speedway results this season, with his best finish coming in July with a 14th. Notably, he scored a track-best ninth in June 2019.

After focusing on his Super Stock effort at Sunset Speedway, Tyler Hawn will make his return to the series in his first appearance since placing on the podium at the 2021 Autumn Colours Classic. He’s no stranger to the action, having won the championship four previous times.

Another past winner in the field will be Billy Alderson Jr., hoping to repeat the magic that led him to a previous Fall Velocity victory.

Dalen Martin has been consistent on the tour, scoring six top-10’s in his last seven series appearances. He knows what it takes to be successful at Sunset, having scored a heat victory and a track-best finish of fifth in June 2019.

Trevor Thompson made a big splash when he first entered the Hot Rod tour, and it seems the speed has remained in the Camaro ever since as evident by a seventh-place finish at Sauble Speedway. He has scored a top-five in his last four appearances at Sunset Speedway, including a runner-up in 2020.

Beyond the drivers mentioned here, there is the possibility to see other faces make an appearance this weekend at Sunset Speedway.
