BEHIND THE WHEEL: 4 OSCAAR Modified Drivers to Watch Going into Delaware Speedway

LONDON, Ontario — After excitement across the province this year, the Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modifieds presented by Just Foam It are ready for the Great Canadian Weekend at Delaware Speedway on Saturday, September 24.

Marshall Schrenk enters this weekend with momentum following a top-10 in five of his last six series appearances. He has a bunch of laps at the half-mile, having battled there behind the wheel of a late model. He was fast back in July, picking up a sixth and a fourth.

“We are really excited to have another shot at our home track this year,” he commented. “Our luck hasn’t been the best with our modified there but we are hoping to turn that around this weekend! Delaware is a blast to race at and we can’t wait to get out there Saturday!”

Paul Townsend has been consistent in his most recent series appearances with back-to-back top-10 finishes, including a seventh at Delaware Speedway in July.

“After focusing on my ROC (Race of Champions_ cars the last couple of months across the border, we had a clutch slipping at Sunset which gave a poor showing at Sunset qualifying and the balance of the car was way off,” Townsend explained. “The half-mile is what I’m used to running so with the mechanical issues repaired, I’m looking for a good showing at Delaware where we ran good last year the first night. An adjuster on the car failed the second night spoiling that finish, but the car showed some good speed both nights.

“The next race at Flamboro, being my home track for years – those are both circled to have some good results.”

Bryan Batty may only be running a partial schedule, but you cannot take your eyes off the No. 39 following four finishes no worse than seventh, including a fifth at Delaware in July.

“Back in July with a torn up car we managed to work from the back all the way to fourth under a green to checker scenario,” Batty recalled. “Sadly, we burnt the tires off on the way up there. All we can do is keep working these long hours every night in the shop and hope for the best and put on a good show for the fans at our home track.”

Norman Newman will be looking for a solid run after scoring a best-finish of fourth in three series appearances in 2022. He has scored a top-10 in two of his last four appearances at Delaware, including a fifth.

“I haven’t been able to race much this year due to work,” Newman admitted. “I’m just hoping for a strong finish. I put the time into the car to be fast so let’s just hope all the work pays off!”
